At BENG! we love trendwatching.com and the interesting trendreports they come out with consistently throughout each year. Their most recentreport: 10 Crucial Consumer Trends for 2013 helps us understand the directiontrends from last year are moving and how we can incorporate these into anevents setting. See below for the trends we feel will be big this year.
Trend 1: CrowdsourcingEveryone is still talking about crowdsourcing crowdfunding.Consumers want more than just purchasing power. They want to get in on theground floor. Consumers want to help companies think up the next big idea, theywant to help their favorite brands or companies raise funds and they want tosee their products grow on a vertical and horizontal level. Expect to seecrowdsourcing at events – whether they are conferences, internal company eventsand experiential consumer events. It’s time to let brand followers do thetalking and decision making.
Trend 2: BYOD – Bring Your Own DeviceMobile has been huge for many years now…and expect thattrend to continue. We need to start relying on the notion that consumers (akaattendees of our events) will look to their mobile devices to help maximizeevery event they attend. The time of providing your attendees and event goerswith devices is almost over. We need to start thinking more along the lines ofintegrating our attendee’s devices and using them wisely. Have them download anapp to help crowdsource a problem during an internal business event, or usetheir own devices to upload their tweets or photos to a livestream wall at younext event. Bring your own device isn’t a fad. Use every mobile device to youradvantage and have them all speak out for you!
Trend 3: Eco-EventsThe environment and sustainability isn’t new. Consumers havehad a growing interest in companies that are green and brands that are investedin sustainable growth. As per Trendwatching.com, consumers want products that“can be given back to nature to grow something new.” The idea that products anditems can be given new life and not just recycled. Make sure to keepeco-friendly and sustainable event methods at the core of your event.Especially for product launches and product based events.
