Cute Bambi Deer at Nara Park, Japan
To contact us Click HERE
Previously a huge private garden, Nara Park (奈良公園) is a public park located in the city of Nara, Japan, at the foot of Mount Wakakusa, established in 1880. The park is one of the "Places of Scenic Beauty" designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). There are over 1,200 wild sika deer (シカ or 鹿 shika) roaming freely around in the park classified as a "Natural Monument." Nara National Museum and Great Buddha of Todai-ji, is also part of the park compound.
According to local folklore, deer from this area were considered sacred due to a visit from one of the four gods of Kasuga Shrine, From that point onwards, the deer were considered divine and sacred. Killing one of these sacred deer was a capital offense punishable by death at least up until 1637. Post World War II the deer were officially stripped of their sacred/divine status and were instead designated as National Treasures and are protected as such. Of course, we are not allowed to kill or capture those deer but there are accident cases whereby deer are killed in road accident at night
The Sika Deer (name derived from shika (鹿), Cervus nippon, also known as the Spotted Deer or the Japanese Deer, is a species of deer native to much of East Asia and introduced to various other parts of the world. It is now on the brink of extinction in all areas except in Japan, where the species is overabundant.

Too hungry? or just trying its luck with the chain? Those chains are not to restrict the deer..they are just used a marker to show their main 'housing' space. The deers can just come out anytime |
Laze around..ahh that's life..with free food for them without any worries |
or getting pat by tourists..this is what we want to see in any part of the world..animals and human can co-exist together |
That's me feeding the deer with rice crackers aka Shika senbei (鹿煎餅) |

They Call it "The God's Window"

Fret not! Part of my South Africa posting in the year 2009 has not ended yet. As part of my final trip in South Africa, namely the Kruger National Park, I took the chance to drop by God’s Window which is part of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve.
God’s Window is a popular vantage point along the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. The name God’s Window is for the panoramic view of the Lowveld which is more than 900 m down into lush indigenous forest clad ravine. The cliffs plunge over 700 metres to the Lowveld which means it is as high as the Penang Hill. Remember the famous 1980 cult film The Gods Must Be Crazy? God’s Window features prominently in the plot whereby the indigenous Bushman character travels to God’s Window, and due to some low-lying cloud cover believes it to be the end of the Earth.
On a clear day it is possible to see the Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains on the border with Mozambique. Just one look down and you will begin to understand why it is called "God's Window". Such majestic observation of the hills and forests are as far as the eye can see!

Lots of pine trees all over and can you see the background of this photo? majestic! |
700 meters high view! |
close-up view of the forests...actually deforestation is happening here but according to the locals these trees are farmed for paper and the cleared area are being planted with new trees again. Well is it sustainable? You can decide! |

2D Code and Bar Code Similarities
To contact us Click HERE
If you’ve worked with linear bar codes, you’re more familiar with QR codes than you may think.
The old saying is true—the more things change, the more they stay the same. Similar thinking can be applied to QR codes, which are a lot like the bar codes, which you may already familiar with. Applying that thought process will remove a lot of the mystery when working with QR codes during your production process.
Quiet Zone: Barcodes require a sufficient quiet zone, and QR codes do, too. A good rule of thumb is to have a minimum white border equal to the width of two (and up to four) modules around all four sides.
Symbol Contrast: Symbol contrast is the difference in reflectance values between the lightest and darkest parts of the symbol. The blackest possible bars printed on the whitest possible substrate would have 100% contrast. Gray shades can be used, as long as the background and module colors vary in contrast by >=40% (a “C” grade).
Color Usage: Like bar codes, QR codes do not need to be black and white—as long as there is sufficient contrast. It’s best to stick with a light colored background towards the red end of the color spectrum and use dark colored modules towards the blue end of the color spectrum. For an ANSI Symbol Contrast Color Chart, go to http://www.scanalyst.com/colortool.doc Verification: Best practice says to test the QR code on a variety of mobile devices, and test scanning it with a variety of reader apps. A professional grade GS1 bar code scanner is a great verification tool—especially if reporting and ISO compliance are necessary. As an example, in addition to verifying all of the major (linear) bar codes, the Integra 9500 will read and verify QR codes, Micro QR codes and Datamatrix codes.

Fishing with QR Codes
To contact us Click HERE
Another clever use of QR codes involved passersby fishing for QR codes on Lexington Street in Soho, London. For a limited period leading up to their launch, the restaurant, Yoobi, covered their hoarding around the future site with fish that have QR codes on them.
The Temaki Sushi restaurant ‘Yoobi ‘is London’s first. Prior to opening, the future site stood behind a brightly painted green hoarding. Passersby could go fishing with QR Codes. Each black fish on the hoarding had its own unique QR code. “Winning” fish meant free Temaki. Every code revealed a different message, such as “Well done, you’ve caught the freshest fish around” or “Unlucky, your fish escaped”. Winners would then present a voucher during the first two weeks of the opening, which occurred in March of 2012. The physical codes stayed the same; they changed the messages, however, that were generated by each code, which meant the game would remain fresh. In other words, an unlucky fish one day might be a winner the next.

QR Codes vs. Datamatrix
To contact us Click HERE
The question often arises—which is better QR Codes or DatamatrixCodes? Generally speaking, choosing to use one over the other is negligible.
Which 2dcode is better—QR codes or Datamatrix? People will agree to disagree on thissubject. (Generally) speaking, using one over the other is negligible. I saythis because the best reader apps will read both, anyway. Datamatrix is moreefficient, has better error correction, a better finder pattern, etc. Whileadvertisers have been quick to adopt QR codes for their ad campaigns, the twocodes are visually similar enough that someone would not be any less inclinedto scan a Datamatrix code if they happened by one. The underlying principle foreach code is the same—“What will happen after the code is scanned?”
Datamatrix is the code of choice for industry groups for use in their supplychains—commerce for aerospace, automotive, healthcare, pharmaceutical andnutraceutical, electronics, etc. Also, Datamatrix performs better when markingproducts directly (for example, printing on a variety of surfaces such as plasticor metal) and can be printed with a much smaller footprint. In addition,Datamatrix codes are approximately 20% more efficient than QR codes. Meaning, theycan be that much smaller and contain the same amount of data, or the same sizecode can be read from 20% further away.

QR Codes and Beer
To contact us Click HERE
More and more clever uses of QR codes are cropping up—they are not so ho-hum anymore. Guinness have incorporated a QR code into a beer glass, which appears only when filled with their dark brew.
Another clever use of QR codes, which is similar to the 3D sunlight activated code that created a code by casting a shadow, has been created by BBDO, New York. BBDO have created an etched code on a beer glass that is literally activated by the Guinness product—once poured into the glass, the beer's black color fills in the code; regular colored beer will not have an effect. The code resolves to tweets about the beer, Facebook status updates, and even launches exclusive Guinness content, such as providing the ability to download coupons and promotions. A year ago, the campaign was a real hit—in fact; the campaign was a gold winner at the 2011 John Caples International Awards. It has gone viral now and, unfortunately, the original landing now resolves to a parking page on domain registrar GoDaddy.com. What a disappointment to the thousands of people who have scanned the code.

QR Codes in Greeting Cards

Extend the message in your greeting card with a QR code. Here, I incorporated a QR code into a card , which played the result of the static art I created.
Another clever use of a 2d code extends the user experience through a video. After drawing the artwork, I scanned it and manipulated it in Photoshop; several layers were created and edited to add elements and move parts of the image around. I then rendered it as a .avi file. NOTE: I've taken the landing page down; you can see how the code resolved by watching the video, below.

Slipping this great infographic in for the last post of this week. I will continue with some great marketing campaign coverage next week. I saw this really interesting stat this morning and wanted to pass it on:
88% of adults in the US have a cell phone, 57% have a laptop, 19% own an e-reader, and 19% have a tablet.
The above info comes at a time when I am blasting through one of the most interesting reads I have had in a long time: The Power of Habit. Knowing the psychology of marketing along with stats like these, we should all take a moment to think about our marketing campaigns and tweak them strategically.

Happy Summer Friday Everyone!
Here are this week's hottest viral videos. There are some truly great ones this week!
I wanted to share the most recent viral hit from T Mobile. The brand has pulled out some great stunts in the past. This one, was unfortunately an angry customer gone awry and put T Mobile on the bad side of the viral video wave. The video was shot on a handset and made to look like reality tv. A man is captured on video after being refused a refund in a store. He goes crazy and smashes up the shop, including spraying the place with fire extinguishers. All while a large crowd watches.
The video received over a million views in just 24 hours! What do you think? Will this have a negative impact on T Mobile, or is this publicity?

Japanese Offer-What is the Japanese offer?
The Japanese offer is the lowest price listed in the price list, in order to cause buyers interested in quotations.
Japanese quote is most advantageous to the seller settlement as a precondition, and under the terms of trade in such a low price, various aspects are difficult to meet all of the needs of the buyer if the buyer is asked to change the conditions, the seller would will be a corresponding increase in the price. Therefore, buyers and sellers to the last traded price, often higher than the price in the price table.
The resolve of the Japanese offer:
Japanese offer in the face of many external opponents, is an art and strategy offer.
On the other hand, when other vendors defeated have gone, when the original buyer buyer's market advantage because it can exclude competitors and to attract the buyer over, to obtain advantage and victory in the competition with other vendors; ceased to exist, turned out to be a buyer on a number of vendor negotiations obviously advantages in the hands of the buyer, and when other vendors does not exist, has become a buyer to a seller, the two sides no one dominant thus can sit down and makes a talk, while the buyer this time in order to reach a certain demand, had served as the seller little by little to raise the price can be achieved.
Japanese quotations responses:
Smart negotiators do not want to fall into the trap of the Japanese offer. Best practices into a Japanese offer to avoid is that the other offer content and other merchants offer of eleven comparison to see whether they contain content, and thus determine its pricing and other merchants offer comparable sex. Can not just have the form of expression, regardless of the substance, and strayed into the trap. If the comparison is found to be inconsistent, that is, to judge from its contents and price relationship, not blindly engaged.
It should be noted that if the offer do not have directly comparable, it would have to be adjusted accordingly, so that comparable, and then for comparison and decision-making. Should not only pay attention to the final price, a careful analysis of its offer contains no comparison, hasty decision-making, resulting in undue passive and losses.
In addition, even if the offer of a merchants than those of other vendors, concessions, competitive, but also do not completely give up the contact and contact with other merchants, to know that doing so actually give each other a sustainable competitive pressure, forcing them to continue to make concessions.
The evaluation of the Japanese offer:
The Japanese offer is actually the same thing with the Western European style offer, the two different only in form, but there is no substantive difference.
In general, the Japanese offer pro-competitive Western European-style offer more in line with the price psychology. Most people are accustomed to price high to low, gradually decreased, rather than the opposite change in trend.

International Multimodal Transport-What is the international multimodal transport?
International multimodal transport is a location to another and the territory under the multimodal transport contract, at least two different modes of transport, multimodal transport operator, the goods from the territory of a country to take over the goods to specify the location of delivery of the goodsmodes of transport.
Multimodal transport operator (the Combined Transport Operator-CTO), refers to any person of his own or through their representatives, the multimodal transport contract. He bears the responsibility for the performance of the multimodal transport contract.
The difference between the international multimodal transport and international transport of goods:
Very few international multimodal transport by an operator to assume all transportation. Often told the commission of the shippers, intermodal operators to handle part of the carriage work, while the rest of the transport work commissioned other carrier. But this is different from the single mode of transport for those receiving the multimodal transport operator shall be responsible to transfer the care of the carrier, only in accordance with the contract of carriage, the relationship between the CTO is responsible for any business relationship with shippers. Therefore, the multimodal transport operator is the actual carrier, but "NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Carrier, referred to as the NVOC). International multimodal transport general international transport of goods at different points in the following areas:
(1) the content and production methods of shipping documents.
International multimodal transport for most of the "door to door" transport of goods shipment or loading or installed by the actual carrier issuing the bill of lading or waybill issued by the multimodal transport operator, the multimodal transport bill of lading, which is multi-modal intermodal with a single international shipping method is fundamentally different. In this case, the bill of lading or waybill shipper should be multimodal transport operator, consignee and notify party should normally be foreign affiliates of the multimodal transport operator or its agent; multimodal transport bill of lading the consignee and the consignor is a real, actual shipper and consignee, notify party is the port of destination or the final delivery location of the consignee or the agent of the consignee.
Unless otherwise specified port of loading on the multimodal transport bill of lading, port of discharge, but also sets out the receipt, the name of the place of delivery or final destination, as well as the name of the first leg of means of transport, cruises or trips, etc.
(2) the applicability of the multimodal transport bill of lading, and the transferability of general maritime bills of lading.
Only the general maritime bills of lading for sea, from this sense, the multimodal transport bill of lading only applies when combined in the maritime and other modes of transportation, but now it also applies to the outside of the shipping of two or more different modes of transport continuity of cross-border transport (foreign international multimodal transport document "can avoid conceptual confusion).
Multimodal transport bill of lading to the non-negotiable waybill transferability of the ocean bill of lading and other transport mode one, the multimodal transport operator, the issue of transfer may also be issued non-transferable, according to the requirements of the shipper can intermodal bill of lading. In the former case, the consignee column should be used to order; the latter case, the consignee column should specify the name of the consignee, and non-negotiable bill of lading.
(3) the terms of the letter of credit.
Under the terms of the multimodal transportation needs, the letter of credit shall have the following three-point changes:

In the former case, the consignee column should be used to order; the latter case, the consignee column should specify the name of the consignee, and non-negotiable bill of lading.

(1) to the bank for negotiation can not be used to clean on board bill of lading issued by shipping companies and multimodal transport bill of lading should be issued by the multimodal transport operator, and should also indicate the bill of lading the rise of production, in order to clear the possibility of transfer.
The ② multimodal transport container transport in general (except in exceptional circumstances, such as machinery and equipment shipped overseas project contracting is not necessarily used containers), and therefore should increase in the credit designated by the terms of the container transport.
③ such as banks help turn single, changed directly by the shipper or consignor or multimodal transport operator to send the single to the consignee or agent as soon as possible to obtain the shipping documents, to speed up the delivery of the goods in the port of destination (land), should add in the credit and shipping documents directly by the consignor or by the multimodal transport operator to send the terms of the consignee or his agent ". By the multimodal transport operator to send a single shipper out of the need for negotiation of settlement by the multimodal transport operator, issue a receipt of shipping documents have been sent "to prove.
(4) the procedures of customs clearance.
Most of the place of delivery of general international transport of goods at the loading port, destination mostly in the port of discharge, and thus handle the formalities of customs declaration and clearance goods enter or leave the port. Departure of international multimodal transport of goods, mostly in the inland cities, inland customs of goods for transit control procedures, examined and released by the Customs of exit.
